Legal Remedies in a Hotel Environment
There are several diseases that can be incurred from handling wild animals. Some of these diseases include anthrax, arthropod-borne virus (arbovirus), B virus (Herpes B), brucellois, campylobacteriosis, cyptococcosis and many others. Most of these diseases are obtained from direct contact with wild animals while others are airborne such as anthrax (Delahey, Smith and Hutchings 2008). Arbovirus is transmitted by arthropods, such as mosquitoes while brucellosis is transmitted from consumption of meat and other dairy products. Care should therefore be taken when handling wild animals such as avoiding direct skin contact, avoiding eating meat from wild animals and avoiding being bitten or scratched by these animals. Similarly, wildlife management should ensure the safety of employees and visitors and ensure no direct contact with these animals. The employees should be provided with protective gear to ensure their safety (Delahey, Smith and Hutchings 2008).
Hotel management has the role of ensuring the safety and proper working conditions of its employees. The employer should consult employees on areas that concern them and also ensure that the staff is not overworked. The hotel management should have an insurance policy to cover its employees (Boella and Pannett 1999). The insurance policy should include worker compensation in case of injuries and health of the workers. Housekeeping employees should be provided with special gear for sanitation purposes. Some of the equipment required includes vacuum cleaners, wet extractors, rotary floor machines, washing machines, and scarifying machines. Housekeeping employees require training on health and sanitation and should wear protective gear such as gloves and face masks to protect them from diseases and bacteria (Boella and Pannett 1999).
The guest has the role of ensuring that he observes all the rules and regulations laid down by the management during the course of his stay (Boella and Pannett 1999). The guest also has the duty of honoring the contract made with the hotel management regarding his stay. Many hotel establishments do not allow animals inside their premises. Those that allow animals have explicit rules and regulations concerning the stay of animals. The guest should therefore ensure that he adheres to the guidelines laid down by the management. The management should have put monetary consideration in case of breach of contract by Busch Gardens.
Wild animal keepers handle the well-being of wild animals. Their duties include feeding, bathing and exercising the animals. They are also responsible for keeping the living spaces of wild animals clean and training and entertaining the animals. They also monitor the animals frequently to ensure they don’t fall sick or injured (Stones 2005). They watch odd behaviors of the animals and keep records of their eating behaviors and provide veterinarians with relevant information about the animals. Wild animals are treated differently since they are not used to the human environment and have an unpredictable behavior (Stones 2005).
The housekeeper has a strong case against the defendants. The employer did not exercise due care in ensuring the comfort and safety of his employees. The hotel manager should have excused the employee if she was affected by the odor. The hotel manager should have also provided the staff with protective gear such as gloves and face masks. The fact that she had visited another farm is not a factor since she fell ill shortly after the departure of the animals (Marsh and Soulsby...
