Freedom of Information Act & the Privacy Act
Freedom of information act is a federal statute that was passed in 1966 and became effective on July 4, 1967. This act established a presumption that every person has the right of access to federal agency records and opened government activity to public scrutiny (Bamberger & Mulligan, 2015). On the other hand, privacy act guarantees security and privacy of data and information from release to others while allowing them to access it. Also, it permits individuals and gives them the right to amend their records that are not accurate and at the same time restricting disclosure of personally identifiable records.
