The United Nations is an intergovernmental body founded in 1945. It comprises of 193 member states who discuss common problems and obtain shared solutions for the general benefit of humanity. The conduct, principles and purpose of the organization are enshrined within its founding charter. The charter was founded and promulgated by fifty-one member states on 26th of June 1945 in San Francisco, California. The charter has undergone three amendments in 1973, 1965 and 1963. The charter serves as an instrument of international law which amplifies the three fundamental principles. That is; peace, equality and dignity.
According to chapter one of the charter, the United Nations is obliged to maintain international cohesion, peace and security. With this stipulation, the organ shall exercise collective prevention measures in addressing threats to peace, ensure conformity in the principles of justice and the international law.
