It does not take a parent or a junior school teacher much effort to introduce a child to science. Children have curious nature, which stimulates their need to learn new things. For example, a colour change experiment that demonstrates how flowers consume water. The kid enjoys watching the leaves and plants turn from green to red, blue or any other colour, depending on the dye. Apart from enjoying the experiment, the child also benefits by gaining research related skills and also builds their knowledge.
Benefits
A child develops science observation skills through such experiments. When a child sits down and looks at the details of the events occurring before his or her eyes, gains great observation techniques. These techniques apply in most part of their lives, both professionally and individually. Additional to observation skills, the child also gains expertise in critical thinking and analysis (Reilly, 2008). The child knows how to evaluate a situation by asking questions and obtain confidence, which is important in problem solving.
Besides acquiring investigation abilities, the colour changing experiment opens the child’s mind; therefore increasing their knowledge. Through asking questions, for example, why do the veins of the plant change colour? The child may answer that that is how plants feed, through veins. From that answer, the child knows that plants absorb and need food and water (Mayesky, 2006).
