The problem of antibiotic resistance is increasingly becoming a challenge across the globe. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) (2020), the rise in the cases of antibiotic resistance poses a threat to global health, food security, and the development of countries in different parts of the world. One of the leading causes for the occurrence of antibiotic resistance, according to Martens and Domain (2017), is the application of antibiotics in the promotion of growth and disease prevention for animals. The authors indicate that up to 30 different antibiotics have been added to the water and food for animals to prevent different diseases and enhance growth.
