Given the significance of knowledge to effectiveness and efficiency of productivity, it is of paramount importance that GDD adopt a system of effectively managing the Company Knowledge. With this understanding, a Knowledge Management (KM) Department is proposed for GDD with a demand for a KM Manager to aid in the KM processes. KM Manager Job Description A KM Manager is needed at GDD to help realize a system which will help the entire workforce of the Company in organizational business update, access and share of knowledge and information. The KM manager will be expected to perform the following functions at GDD in a manner that contributes to the operations of an effective and sustainable business in the contemporal business environment: * Formulation of the KM Strategy which entails the championing of particular initiatives such as facilitation of construction of key taxonomies, re-designing of objectives, connecting people with knowledge while helping to keep that knowledge up to date. This ensures that nobody is lacking in their area of duty and consequently they are actively contributing to the objectivity of the company. * Management of the KM staff by offering cross-training programs which must also spread through the entire employee population. This includes shadowing, mentoring and training programs where employees gain knowledge by observing others work to enhance effectiveness through embedded and in-born expertise. * Influencing organizational change through the creation of solutions via the KM initiatives by the use of database, intranets, portals etc. * Handling all Operations of KM through translation of the user needs into the righ knowledge as requirement of the Company. In addition the KM manager will perform the following job tasks: Implementation of necessary knowledge initiatives, lead and champion necessary knowledge initiatives, locate and bring people to update with knowledge of the company, maintain knowledge in the best format and propagate it through the best channels as well as translation of every need of the workforce into reasonable and useful knowledge (What Are The Top Skills For Knowledge Management Today, 2019) The KM manager is expected to assure and champion role play through governance and thus should have the following immediate skills: intellectual reasoning, motivation skills, communication skills, ability to map information with its rightful matching, being able to find and access information as well as in possession of theoretical and factual knowledge (The Connection between Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Management, 2019). Additionally, in order to champion KM trends for the future, the KM manager should also possess the following skills: Decision-making skills, interpersonal skills, conceptual skills, technical skills and communication skills so as to maintain the role of championing, assuring and governing (15 Hot Knowledge Management, 2015). Explanation as to why GDD is in dire need of a Skilled KM Manager GDD Inc. desperately needs a KM department whose KM manager is well versed with the background information as described. The need arises from the following observations where the Company seems to be lacking: First, despite having worked for over 40 years in GDD, Harry Hartfield is unable to convince Ms. Farthing about the cost plans of purchasing the Lockheed plane over the Boeing 777 due to little knowledge pertaining to prioritization on cost plans. Secondly, the departure of Amid Jordan from GDD to UPS, Orlando is informed by proprietary information and good talent which seemingly GDD did not know how to utilize. Thirdly, as revealed by the Asian GDD shipping department, GDD has a fixed knowledge on delivery timelines, something which creates customer alienation. Therefore, for GDD to realize enhanced organizational agility, better informed decision-making, fast-problem solving definitions, enhanced business processes, fast innovative procedures and better expertise specialization among others, the company should embrace knowledge management processes (What Are The Top Skills, 2017).
