Introduction
Management is one of the seemingly easy but yet hard tasks to accomplish. In real life, managers are tasked with the responsibilities of instructing human resources and directing operations within the company. As per psychological studies, management of human beings is more of an art than a professional undertaking. The complex nature of human beings makes organizations the hardest to manage. Each individual normally carries his or her own desires, and it is therefore everyone’s aim to attain internal fulfillment. This situation is reflected in the daily decision making that affects some members of the team. Dissatisfaction arises when some think that they stand to gain less than others, or that their grievances were not addressed. This leads to daily conflicts wherever human beings are many. This is a primary challenge that managers need to learn how to deal with this situation on a regular basis. The art of management is therefore the ability to address issues affecting a team or organization in a rational way, leaving everyone a winner and fully satisfied (Edelenbos, Van Buuren & Klijn, 2013.
Qualities of a Good Manager
Communication is one of the basic aspects that a manager should grasp to succeed in his duties. He should be able to communicate in a most appealing way to his juniors, as well as have good listening skills. He should be able to motivate people within the team, as well as arbitrate conflicts. In this case, creativity and innovativeness are critical factors. Professional qualification is also important in enabling him or her carry out their duties. A good manager is always committed towards the goals of an organization. Still, discipline is a top factor in ensuring that they remain true to the mission and vision of the group. Good managers are human and considerate of the employees in the organization. They do not force them to do things that may result in overwork or injury. The implication here is that, regardless of the top priority of achieving the set goals, the process of achieving them should include fun. Above all, managers should be versatile and flexible in all sides of their management functions (Edelenbos, Van Buuren & Klijn, 2013).
Poor Qualities of a Manager
Managers are unable to bring people together in a case where they lack the managerial skills required. In most cases, one of the hardest tasks when dealing with people is bringing them together and making them speak in one voice. Poor managerial qualities arise from the inability to communicate well or listen to the opinions of others.
