Introduction
Monsanto is a sustainable agriculture company, which delivers agricultural products that support farmers all over the world. DuPont on the other hand uses science driven innovation to nourish a growing population and build a secure energy future. Dow combines the power of science and technology to innovate the important factors vital for human progress.
Expansion of the company’s presence
Expansion of a company is integral for its survival and that is why most companies develop various strategies to accomplish this objective (Donhoe, 2013). In an effort to expand, its presence Monsanto signed the BioAg Alliance with Novozymes to develop, discover and commercialize microbial solutions for farmers. This is an excellent way to expand its presence because this will enable most farmers to increase their productivity with minimum effort (Donohoe, 2013).
In this partnership, the company can accelerate its microbial development, which can help farmers to receive more solutions. It will also allow Monsanto to strengthen its footprint in providing microbial solutions to more farmers and improve the crop per acres thus expanding its presence (Bronson, 2011).
DuPont and Dow can also expand their presence through microbial technologies, which play a major role in the agricultural biological industry. This is so because the growing demand of food grains is likely to increase the sales of biological products. This therefore means by creating strategic alliances these companies can increase their growth prospects, and the increase demand for food grains will provide a framework for future growth (Weis 2007)
Finally yet importantly mediating and contesting biotechnological risks will also make the companies expand their presence. Of the six major companies, which dominate the biotechnology sector, three are United States (US) owned: Monsanto, DuPont and Dow (Haugestad, 2004). This means that this companies specialize either entirely in agricultural biotechnology, pesticides and seeds (Monsanto) or have developed specialist businesses to cover the specific areas (Dow Agro sciences, DuPont Agriculture).
Contracts offered and biggest contributors.
These companies have a way of getting contracts. This is so because a federal contract reveals US reliance on Monsanto for white phosphorus. Though much of this document is redacted, drawing conclusions from it can be bewildering (Stensad, 2009). It seems that a second producer of white phosphorus within the United States and Canada has never found so the government gets the chemicals from Monsanto through a third party (Aitman, 2011)
Local contracts include the technology contract which exposes the seed purchasing farmer to a huge financial liability should he or she be found to have breached the terms of the contract (Sparks, 2013).
It is important to know that these companies will not survive without the contributors and investors. Because these companies are mostly agricultural, it follows that the farmers are of the biggest clients. This therefore means that farmers all over the world use the companies’ innovative products to address challenges and reduce the impact on environment (Dicken, 2011).
Strategic Decisions
The companies use driving innovation whereby they focus their productivity and growth in developing markets (Roberts, 2008). This is part of the reason why companies like Monsanto, DuPont and Dow are quicker to move into a market that other than growing also boasts of products that are be seen as helping to save the environment. Portfolio management is also important whereby these companies allow for ...
