Serving others rather than wielding one's power is the foundation of the "servant leadership" belief and style of leadership. Decentralization characterizes the system's management structure. Leadership that uses this strategy involves employees who interact with customers in decision-making (Gandolfi & Stone, 2018). Having a personal relationship with the customer, these employees can make better decisions to retain and acquire new customers.
Servant leader prioritizes the needs of people around them, particularly those on their team, over their own. People are respected and supported in their efforts to attain professional and personal objectives; they are also included when appropriate, and a feeling of teamwork is fostered. A positive effect of this is that team members become more engaged, create trust, and strengthen relationships. As a result, new ideas may spring up.
Rather than a short-term cure, servant leadership is an approach to behaviour that is long-term in nature. Examples of this kind of leadership include transformational leadership, the most effective in commercial settings, and Level 5 leadership, which calls for leaders to show humility in their day-to-day activities. Servant leaders put the organization's needs and others in their immediate vicinity first when dealing with problems and challenges (DeSensi, 2014). As a servant leader, it is essential to address the needs and aspirations of the customers you serve. Those who think like leaders prioritize attaining power over all else, whether for personal or professional gain, instead of those who believe like followers.
Servant leadership strives to repair the dynamic between management and staff from one of control to cooperation. In the 20th century, Greenleaf coined the term "servant leadership" to critique traditional leadership approaches that emphasize more authoritative connections between employers and employees. It is the goal of servant leaders to inspire creativity, empower their team members, and assure the well-being of everyone they interact with. Successful leaders are those who lead by example and help others grow as leaders. This leadership style requires empathy, listening, stewardship, and a commitment to the personal development of others.
