As a writer, I was expected to demonstrate that I understand the link between lifestyle actions and the specific environmental issues that they are related to. Final Environmental Report
Evolution is a dynamic process, inferential of which the world is increasingly changing at high speed. In the last century alone, numerous advancements if fields like technology and medicine have come about, subsequent to which there were alleviated lifestyles and bolstered longevity for almost everyone on the planet. More so, there have been two World Wars in the past two centuries and a plethora of disputes spearheaded by colonialists over issues like borderlines and slavery. The resultant human suffering was mindboggling. For our ancestors, the present lifestyles were inconceivable. In retrospect, these improved lifestyles come at a price, the brunt of which the environment bears.
The problem
Be it the emission of oxygen by plankton or the emission of methane by cattle, the actions of living organisms have the innate propensity to alter the environment, as well as climate. In the current dynamic world change remains constant, which is not unidirectional, as a radical would purport. We are exhausting available resources at unprecedented rates, begging the question of whether Mother Nature can sustain us for oh so long. Many fundamentalists are for the presumption that climate change is a “natural” process, and a price requisite for progress to take place. I beg to differ. This report proposes that we have a part to play to assuage the environmental impact of both domestic and industrial undertakings, the commencement of which is lifestyle changes. As it emerges, it is the simplest of actions that have the most significant impact. In line with these sentiments, the most significant environmental impact of our collective actions amounts to both environmental degradation and pollution as a whole. Historical patterns suggest that climate change is an inevitable phenomenon, and will continue to be as such. No one owns up to this responsibility that is environmental conservation. It is easier to shift blame to major oil economies, or even the Chinese. In retrospect, fuel guzzlers still rule our roads, while the rising global economic crisis pushes people to espouse cheap tendencies, such as the use of cheap consumer goods. To some degree, every individual plays a role in this catastrophic quagmire. Albeit inactive, the vast majority of the human populace is committed to convenience, inferential of which they implicate in regular lifestyle choices whose potential environmental consequences come across as seriously negligent. It is evident that accepting collective responsibility and taking measures to be environmentally responsible is the answer to environmental impacts from people's lifestyles. The simplest of lifestyle changes have the propensity to create bigger environmental effects.
Environmental Responsibility
Dubbed “going green,” some individuals perceive environmental conservation through individual responsibility as a means by which to conserve the earth whilst simultaneously preserving our way of life. Others, however, contend that it is an infringement of individual rights to be as wasteful as possible, all in the name of exercising autonomous independence. Although a political agenda, I am for the former conjecture, as I give credence to the notion of collective environmental responsibility. It is essential to acknowledge that the haphazard disposal of waste is causing immense harm to the environment. In reality, we ought to find appropriate space to dispose of our waste, particularly inorganic wastes like plastic. In my time, in particular, lobby groups are liaising with local authorities to pass around disposal bags marked for different types of wastes. The disposal techniques for organic and inorganic wastes are entirely singular. In this regard, separating the two makes waste disposal an easier undertaking for these environmentalists. In support of this move, the first lifestyle change I took up was ensuring proper waste disposal. Waste disposal affects the quality of water and air alike. For this reason, also, my second change involved desisting from using bottled and canned food products and beverages. To start with, observes that the privatization of drinking water, along with the production of water bottles is both a social and environmental catastrophe. What’s more, national statistics posit that bottled water costs more than gasoline. Moreover, the impending health consequences of consuming water directly from plastic are not clear yet. Albeit convenient, the environmental harm stemming from using plastic far outweighs its benefits. More often than not, plastic bags and containers find their way into water reservoirs and kill fish, or end up being buried into the soil where they damage natural ecosystems.
