Character Strengths
Character strengths are positive traits, which are reflected in feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. It is a deposition to desire, feel, and act, which involves the exercise of judgment leading to a recognizable instance of human flourishing or human excellence. Various characters exist and the can be applied an individual’s life when performing daily activities in the workplace, home or any other place. Bravery and valor are one of the character strengths that enable a person to have courage and face difficulty, threats, challenges, and any other confrontation that is painful in life (Seligman, 2013). It is obvious that we face various difficulties and challenges in life, but bravery enables us to endure these challenges without fear. Bravery enables an individual to stand firm in his point or opinion even if he/she is facing strong opposition from other people.
Appreciation of beauty and excellence is very important character strength in life. In our everyday activities, we should recognize and appreciate any excellent performance in school, workplace, and home. It might be a personal excellence or excellence achieved by other people. When our children, employees, or any other person excel in school, workplace, home or any other place, we should recognize and appreciate such that they can be motivated to improve and maintain their spirit in what they are doing (Seligman, 2013). Being members of different groups in the workplace, home, and school, we should be loyal and practice teamwork for the success of our respective groups. Success is achieved easily when working as a group as compared to working individually. It is because different people will contribute opinions and discussions in their experienced fields leading quality decision making and success in the group. For the group to be successful, ll the members should be loyal to one another and the group specifically. When cheating or any other disloyalty is included the group will fail without any assistance to the members.
Leadership is important character strength even if the person is not a leader of a big company or organization; he/she can be a leader in the family, group of employees or students in school. All these positions of leadership whether small or big requires leadership as a character. Being a leader, one is expected to lead and encourage group members by working as an example to get things done. Every member of the group should be involved in decision making such that they can field they are part of the group. The leader organized every activity in the organization and made sure everything is done a planned (Seligman, 2013). The duties will not be done without having leadership as character strength. We should be having social intelligence when living or working with other people s a group. The character strength of social intelligence will enable us to recognize the feelings and interest of other people. After recognizing the feelings and interests of other people, the person responsible will take action to make sure that the feelings and interests of all the people are considered to field part of the group.
