ASSIGNMENT 08: Introduction to Psychology
Part I
Our eyes enable us to perceive and analyze outer surrounding stimuli. Our eyes best retrieve the actual reality around us. More information is available to us from our eyes than any other sense organ in the human body. There are three distinct psychological aspects of vision. The first aspect is Hue which refers to the aspect of visual perception denoted by color names. Hue is connected to light wavelength or the separation between light wave crests. Longer waves are usually viewed as orange and red, whereas shorter waves are typically seen as violet and blue. The sun creates white light, a combination of all visible wavelengths. Sometimes, moisture in the air acts like a prism, separating the sun's white light into its visible spectrum's hues, giving us a rainbow. The second aspect is brightness, a visual experience dimension related to the amount, or intensity, of light emitted or reflected by an object. It corresponds to the amplitude of the light wave. The more light reflected by an object, the brighter it appears. The wavelength also affects brightness even when their physical intensities are equal. Yellow appears brighter than reds and blues. Lastly, saturation is a visual experience dimension related to the complexity of light, that is, how broad or narrow the range of wavelengths is. Light is said to be pure when it contains only one wavelength and the resulting color is completely saturated. White light, in contrast, contains all the wavelengths of visible light (corresponding to all the colors in the visible spectrum) and has zero saturation.
