Factors that Influence Children’s Behavior
Children exhibit different behavior depending on how they are brought up and the surrounding environment. For parents with more than one kid, it may be more challenging raising one kid than the other. Various factors may influence a child’s behavior hence posing a challenge to the parents. Some children may develop behaviors such as impulsivity, cruelty, aggression, and inattentiveness due to individual, family, or community risk factors.
One of the major risk factors is parenting stress. Some parents view their children as burdens, thus difficult to manage. As such, the parents treat the children with much negativity which impacts the children emotionally and affects their behavioral development (Sarwar, 2016). Such children develop cruelty and stubbornness due to the environment at home.
Besides, children’s behavior is influenced by community risk factors such as high rates of drug abuse, violence, and crime. Whereas a parent may try to instill discipline in their children at a tender age, such children may become corrupted when they are exposed to a community with so many evils (Sarwar, 2016). Consequently, the children may develop negative behaviors such as stealing, and cruelty due to such exposure.
Further, individual factors such as trauma or mental issue may affect a child’s behavior. Children, who undergo traumatic events such as physical abuse, a car crash, or a natural disaster, may develop post-traumatic stress disorder which may influence their behavior.
