Psychological wellbeing of Syrian Refugee Women in Jordan
Introduction
The current Syria conflict has led to the most significant crisis of refugee displacement. The neighboring nations have hosted a high number of refugees since the commencement of the war. Majority of the Syrians have crossed over to Jordan for safety (Samari, 2015). The conflict effects on the Syrian women psychosocial wellbeing and mental health are profound. Despite the Jordan government effort to host the Syrian refugees, approximately half a million Syrians still face an uncertain future. They cannot return to Syria due to the persisting insecurity and conflict. Majority of the highly susceptible individuals struggle to be employed to support their loved ones while in Jordan (Pottie et al., 2016). Nearly 80 percent of the Syrian refugees in Jordan reside among the host community outside the camps. The budgets cuts have increasingly jeopardized the United Nations financial aid programs that previously met their needs. Unfortunately, there is a restriction of the options of the refugees, unlike their needs. With their properties already sold, savings exhausted and debt and borrowing at the rise, they too get few job opportunities (Yigit and Tatch, 2017).
Components of Psychological Health
Mentally
The Feelings of alienation, yearning for homeland and identity loss, are intensive as the Syrian women strain to adapt to the refugee lifestyle within a remote community, or in camps (Abou-Saleh, 2015). Furthermore, the social tensions and discrimination against refugees in Jordan lead to isolation and stress. Majority of the refugee women feel isolated and hardly leave their homes mainly due to lack of opportunities and safety concerns (Sirin, 2015).
