However, not all stress management techniques are healthy. If left unchecked or mismanaged, stress can destroy a person’s life rendering them unproductive. Moreover, excess stress could lead to the development of severe health issues such as heart diseases, obesity, and depression. Therefore, people should not only be concerned with their stress levels but also with the techniques they use to handle it. The best stress reduction techniques for a healthy and productive life are exercising regularly, practicing relaxation techniques and getting enough sleep.
Foremost, exercising regularly helps us to regulate the amount of stress hormones in our body. Research indicates that whenever we are stressed, our bodies produce the hormones adrenaline and cortisol to protect us from bodily harm (Seaward, 2015). However, in today’s world, we rarely need to respond to stress factors in this way. Therefore, exercise plays a significant role in allowing our bodies to metabolize the adrenaline and return to its usual calm state. Additionally, you do not need to spend hours in the gym to reap these benefits. A simple 20-minute workout routine is enough. Furthermore, you can exercise anywhere without any equipment whether it’s at home or work and you will still relieve your stress.
