1 Think of a class outside of your major. Using the Gestalt principle, “The whole is greater than the sum of the parts,” describe your preconceived perception of the class, 3 details that you now know are different from that initial perception, and your continuing perception in spite of the details.
Thinking outside my major, a class that would come into my mind is Hermeneutics. Based on Gestalt principle that “the whole is greater than the sum of the parts”, my first thought of the class was all about learning how to interpret the bible. In my expectations, I thought we would learn a common strategy on how to interpret bible verses. Prior to attending this class, my idea was that everybody has a way of understanding bible verses and that all mattered was passing the word to the congregation and the topic of hermeneutics seemed redundant. The class however turned out to be one of the most exciting ones in the course so far. One thing I have learned thanks to this class is that the word of God is not exhaustible in its truth. This implies that whereas one may see hermeneutics as redundant, the scripture is not shallow and lacking in content. Another thing I have learnt is the power of interacting with other people in changing how ones perceives the world and make conclusions about things in life.
