The Increasing of Complexity of Delinquency in Society

Theories of delinquency include individual causes (e.g., personality traits), societal or environmental factors (e.g., poverty, lack of education), social processes that contribute to delinquent behavior such as imitating one’s peers, and the interactions among different groups in society that lead to crimes by juveniles. We should consider a juvenile's age, sexuality, recklessness, and drug addiction when we talk about the causes of delinquency (Sims, 2006). The younger children are when they first encounter criminal behavior, the more likely they will be to commit crimes later in life. As children grow older, they learn who they are and how to behave by watching what their parents do. Gender plays an important role in juvenile delinquency. For a long time, most juvenile delinquents were male. Recently, however, female involvement in crime has been increasing steadily. Impulsiveness can lead adolescents to engage in risky behavior that has the potential for both short-term and long-term consequences. If substance use is a factor, then delinquency is linked with from addiction (Simmons et al, 2018). Delinquency has been linked to an increase in drug addiction and aggression later in life. Family structure, social influences, community effect, and educational settings are examples of societal causes. Poor parenting skills, family size, child abuse, and antisocial parents have all been related to delinquency in studies. Peer effects on delinquency include peer acceptance for conduct, a need to feel attached and just looking forward to spending time with peers. Peer influence and acceptance are important, and they are becoming more so with parents who have minimal contact with their children. Juveniles' upbringing in the community and at school may have an impact on their chances of becoming delinquent (Craig et al., 2020).
