The Physical and Psychological Benefits of Exercise
High levels of exercises are essential for both physical and psychological health fitness. Daily exercise can lower the danger of being attacked by several chronic illnesses such as heart diseases, and diabetes (Booth, Roberts & Laye, 2012, pp. 1143-1211). Bones and muscles strengthen as well as the immune system functioning. For those with physical injuries, exercises often speed up the healing process of wounds. Regular exercise has been a critical recovery factor for those with disabilities, such as a hip fracture. For persons with low cardiopulmonary fitness, especially older adults, derive many benefits by increasing physical exercises. Psychologically, exercises improve one’s mood, self-esteem, and body image. Improved mood serves as a treatment for depression, and thus stopping exercise can lead to heightened symptoms of depression. Those who exercise regularly have reduced stress as well as increased ability to cope with stress. Individual satisfaction increases and one can take pride in physical accomplishments.
Essential Characteristics of Health Compromising Behaviors
Health compromising behaviors are performances practiced by persons that undermine or harm their present or future well-being. These behaviors are habitual and addictive, and this makes it difficult for the victims to break free from. Several health-compromising practices share a variety of essential characteristics. To begin with, there is a window of exposure in the adolescent (Farhat, Iannotti & Simons-Morton, 2010, pp. 258-267). At this stage, adolescents are open to excess drinking, unsafe sexual practices, smoking and taking all manner of risks that at the end cluster together as part of a problematic behavior disorder. Secondly, other health-compromising behaviors are rooted in peer culture.
