Conversely, if a person is envious, it means that while they may lack something in their own lives, they want something that belongs to someone else. The individual will feel as if they are greater or superior to those around them after acquiring this object. In my own life, there have been several occasions where I have observed people being envious of those around them. I have seen one of my friends, for instance, obsess about the things and garments that one of her classmates has. This friend decided to catch up with this girl who had many designer clothing pieces and was highly trendy. It is impossible, though, to keep up with anyone if they have more cash to spare than you do. This acquaintance felt as if her reputation was beyond that of her friend's after buying the things that she envied. When they see the other person pleased with it, a person who is envious of someone's possession will yearn for that in their life. Finally, she is searching for not the actual wardrobe but happiness. However, if one wears better clothes than anyone else, I do not believe that it makes you above that guy. It is necessary to note that it is your personality and the way you handle individuals that make you a stronger person. In comparison, you will not only feel better for yourself if you treat persons with dignity but also be regarded with the same dignity. The root of idolatry related to envy is to keep away the consideration from God towards a person or thing, which we are envious (Poore, n.d.). For instance, we put our fulfillment in something that is not Heaven, and we claim that it is not enough for us. For that reason, repentance is the only correct answer, withdrawing from the toxin of our jealousy and rushing to the main hall of mercy. To cope with this idolatry, one should see envy as a deception; however, it is not easy to think like that. Therefore, one should confront envy with happiness, allowing the feeling of envy to be depressed. One should count the blessing of God over him/her that will pave a path towards the eradication of envious feeling. Seligman can clarify that one needs to shed the feelings of envy that arise in their lives to gain eudemonia. One should determine what triggers the feelings of envy for an individual to succeed and establish happiness in their life. DeYoung may suggest that to help you conquer any feelings of jealousy you might have, you should look to God. Part 3: Learning from the Past I do not think people want to be jealous of someone, but sometimes they may be in the essence of the human. It may be a consequence of a lonely or miserable life if a person is envious. Joseph Epstein said that all the cardinal sins, just jealousy is no pleasure at all (DeYoung, 2009).
