View of Good and Evil
Religion teachings is not value free that is why it is important for all the believers to start figuring out what constitutes good religion and bad religion. The View of Good and Evil in religion helps us to learn the functions of religion and social subtleties.
View of Good and Evil in Hinduism
Hinduism believes that good and evil are relative terms where one term cannot exist without the other. Entirely good and evil are observed differently by Hinduism .For example anything that appears good in one situation can appear evil in another situation. Hinduism accept that good as well as evil happens in their minds. Therefore good justifies their interests while evil brings despair. (O’Flaherty, et.al 1976).Hinduism believes that it is hard to find anything undeniably good or undeniably evil in this world. Anything good occurs in one phase and the other phase is evil. Ignoring one phase will make Hinduism perceive the other phase as wrong. For example, murderers believe their deeds appear good to somebody.However,taking this wrong course of action will prompt others to called him a murderer thus no sympathy from anybody and is likely to be punished by society and the State.
Hinduism believes the unmanageable that surrounds the separation of true results of their actions due to the physical forces of environment. Whatever ethically good in one case may be evil in another case. Hindus believe that every act they do must be backed by particular motive and that motive is for the good of some, or for the evil of some. When good and evil are viewed in different conditions, they recognize that evil has its good side and good has its evil side meaning they all go hand in hand. For instance, what is good in the Old Testament may be evil for those who believe in other scriptures. Polygamy is a sin in Christianity but a virtue with the Mohammedans.
View of Good and Evil in Jainism
Jainism highlights the importance of non-violence to all living things and fairness among all life. Self-control and non-violence are ways of obtaining freedom. Jainism does not like the concept of worshiping a single God. The main teachings of Jainism include renouncing, killing of living things, lying, greed, sexual pleasures and earthly attachments. Jainism teaches the principle of anekantavada that refers to the idea that each person perceives truth and reality inversely and no solitary view is complete.
Jainism clearly clashes with sacred Christians. First, Jainism upholds the worshiping of a idol than the real God. Jainism rejects the outright reality in the Scripture that claims that God is real and his words are actual (Meister & Dew 2013). They believe in reincarnation and in the reality of souls the clear contrast with the biblical belief about the creation of mankind by God’s image. Jainism also believes in karma of which they are taught about the returning of anything done either good or bad.
