When I first learnt about this paper in our syllabus saw it as very interesting and through it, had many thoughts on the many religions that exist in the world today. I being an Islam, I thought it would be a very interesting experience, getting to learn about other people’s religions at a personal level. From my basic knowledge according to Benz ( 2017) on the orthodox church, It being one among the three main Christian groups existing in the world, and the curiosity I have always had about this religion, I saw it best to get to know more about it. I remembered I had my friend Susan, who is a member of the religion in New York whom I could ask to help me out. I contacted her and asked her to take me along during one of their services.
The day came and my friend and I went ahead to attend one of their services. It was through this visit that I got to interact with the Orthodox church of New York beliefs and got to learn a lot about their unique practices, observances, beliefs, and cultural practices. I asked Susan concerning their faith and belief so that I get to have some brief knowledge regarding their religion before entering the church.
According to her, they have upheld the continuity of faith and love with an apostolic community founded by Jesus Christ and sustained through the help of the Holy Spirit. They hold the belief that since the time of the Apostles, they have kept up with the Christian faith and taught it to other generations without any changes and errors. They also believe that in their teachings, there is nothing that prevents their actual union with God. She further explained that their faith is inseparable from the church. They believe that without the church, it is hard for them to know Jesus, to share in the holy trinity and be termed as Christians. They have faith that through the church, a Christian can be said to have faith and have it flourished.
