The Three Religions Helped Pi's journey
Life of Pi is a novel by Yann Martel; it describes the difficult situation Pi faced on his sea voyage when the ship he was traveling with wrecked. Pi was a very religious person and interested in various religions (Turtleback, 2012). Throughout the struggles at sea, he could apply multiple religious beliefs he had acquired as a young man. Throughout the shipwreck, he narrates how his journey to spiritual nourishment helped him survive the wreck with a tiger named Richard Parker.
Pi grew up practicing the traditional Indian faith. He took part in all the rites while growing up. Pi appreciates the Hindu philosophy and values it greatly that he acknowledges that he will forever remain Indian to practice the Indian faith(Gleeson & O'Neill, 2013). His curiosity in his spiritual journey led him to get into a Catholic church while aged fourteen years. His interest in seeing a man on the cross receives the better part of him, and he enquires about the story of Jesus and the much love he has for the Christians. His desire to want to be among the loved ones by Christ guides his passion for practicing Christianity.
Pi describes how he met Mr. Kumar, a Muslim and a baker (Martel, 2018). During their interaction, Mr. Kumar excuses himself to pray to Pi's surprise. He becomes interested in knowing more about the Islamic faith and believes that Islam as a religion is for the beloved. It excites him, and he enquires more about Islam and begins to practice Islam.

Pi believed faith extends to all the three different beliefs he had acquired knowledge of that did not augur well with the religious leaders. Eventually, he was excommunicated from all the worship places by the religious leaders because of his contradicting belief and desire to practice all three faiths. Pi never relented nor abandoned his idea. It is this Pi that we encounter on the shipwreck. During these trying moments, he held onto his extraordinary faith and belief in the three faith practicing all three in different situations in his encounter.
Trapped at sea, Pi continued to practice his Indian faith by only consuming vegetables he had carried for the voyage. The fictional living creatures introduced by Pi and trapped together in the journey did the unexpected to survive(Gleeson & O'Neill, 2013). He narrates how some of these creatures eat one another to survive. Practicing his Hindu tradition, he opted not to engage in such vices. Eventually, his need for survival grew stronger upon exhausting whatever he had to consume.
The Christian and Islamic faith had no restriction for the consumption of meat. He, therefore, embarke
