In today’s world, people value their freedom and peace a lot. This was the same thought as those of the women and girls in Afghanistan before the Taliban reign which was very controlling and ended up denying women their rights. In history, Afghanistan women are known to being victims of marginalization and given subordinate status in the society. Women’s position within the family and the society are shaped by numerous factors which include cultural and historical factors or gender discrimination. This essay focuses on the economic, social and cultural living condition of the Afghan women.
The many years that the country was in war and violence resulted in instability in political and economic situation in the country led to negative impacts on the women. In addition to that, Afghanistan is a multi-ethnic state which has a very traditional society that is governed according to tribal lines and a rather weak central government.
The aftermath of the war, which lasted about five years resulted to Afghanistan being one of the poorest countries in the world. When the rights of men and those of women are contrasted and compared, a lot of facts show that many women in this country are victims of sexual discrimination, violence, among other things (Dupree 2014).
