INTRODUCTION
Abortion has in the recent past become a bone of contention. It has had proponents as well as people opposing the idea. Especially from a religious and cultural perspective, most people have had a hard time accepting that abortion has become a part of life. The proponents argue that abortion helps save life, social status, enforces human rights, and is an effective strategy towards economic development (Shapiro, 2008). The topic can be discussed from both sides with pros and cons to each side. The current essay will thus make use of the believing game theory to assess the topic.
BODY
Own position on the abortion topic
Abortion though having a lot of proponents, I tend to think that it is a question of morals as well as general ethics. The code of doing right and leaving the wrong would help establish to the topic. Thinking of it, abortion in my opinion should not be seen as an individual right. Instead, conception should be celebrated by the society.
All women, should be advised as well as be educated on the importance of being a mother. In most cases, abortion processes are as a result of denial as well as low self-esteem. Hence measures should be taken to help women especially the young and old to accept pregnancy. Being positive thinkers would help resolve the high rates of abortion. Hence in my opinion, it should be completely prohibited for people to become reasonable as well as accountable of their actions. Exemptions should be given to health cases. This absolute cases should only be left at the discretion of the doctors who should decide on cases that are fit.
Therefore, my position on the abortion issues is that it is unethical, immoral, and against human values. Therefore, it should not be allowed and should not be seen as a human right. In addition, reading through the work of elbow on believing game theory, the abortion issues will still lead to a lot of doubts in my mind.
Reasons supporting my position
Procon.org site hypothesises the pros and cons of issues as well as making application of the believing game to assess the issues. The abortion topic as discussed in the assignment earlier, the pros to it do not support my argument. However, the cons support my position and thus will lay a bases for the current discussion.
Those that opposes the argument have done so on different bases. From procon, abortion is not supported since it is seen as murder. Also there is an argument that life begins at conception and thus the foetus feel pain as well as the process is not moral and defies the word of God (Shapiro, 2008).
The three reasons were selected basing on different arguments. For instance, I stand strong in my position that abortion is immoral and thus is against cultural norms as well as moral values. Murder is a moral issue and is against any human values. It is wrong before human and God. In addition, biology dictates that life begins at conception and thus a foetus is a complete human being who is still developing in size. For this reason the foetus will be feeling pain since it is a live being. Yenerall (2011) argued that fertilisation commences a human life. This is to say that abortion would be a killing process hence cannot be legalised.
Premises opposing own position
Making use of the believing game, one is tasked with thinking about author’s argument. From the discussion, abortion could be permits as it is assumed that foetus are not living beings and thus they do not feel pain. This means that through the abortion process, they are not hurt. Consequently, the process cannot be qualified to be murder (Yenerall, 2011). In addition, parenthood is assumed to begin at birth. Therefore, killing after birth would defy the word of God and would be regarded as immoral. However, before birth, the choice of retaining the pregnancy is left to the mother which is counted as a public policy of human rights. Therefore, women are able to take control of their own bodies which amount to empowerment.
Biases experienced
Through the analysis of abortion, bias was likely to be evidenced especially when evaluating the issue from its pros which were against my general idea and opinion. The bias types were expected to be cognitive in nature more so because of self believes in evaluation of a scenario. The two major types of bias that were evident included the self-serving bias and the framing cognitive bias.
The self-serving bias was coming up as it arises in situations where we assume that the opposite of what we tend to think happen due to luck and thus we are tied and incline to our own believes (Yenerall, 2011). In the abortion scenario, my thoughts were supported by the cons and thus evaluation of the pros were seen as occurring due to luck.
