The decision to have a child is a big one and requires that couples do some intensive serious communicating and self-reflecting. However, different couples have weird and wrong ideas about having kids, or they do exactly not have contemplated parenthood. Some couples also perceive that having children will help solve and fix their relationship problems that are not true. Other couples come to the conclusion of having kids because they think that it is the next step to matrimony. Couples should, therefore, consider several factors before deciding to have children.
The first factor and question that they should ask themselves is why they would like to have a child. Both partners should try and figure out their motivation to having kids. Motivation can either be internal or external. External motivation is that considered to do with pleasing others either your parents of your partner. On the other hand, internal motivation is an inner driven action to satisfy an individual’s personal desires and wishes. The couples should also reflect on their past experiences with children and how such experiences might be affecting their present reasons and motivations to wanting a child.
Couples should look into is their condition and status of their relationship. Couples should evaluate on whether they work well together and how best they work well together. They should also see into it that they agree on important issues. How well are their problem-solving techniques in case they have an alarming issue or in the event of disagreement on vital issues?
Communication is considered a primary element to the success of any relationship. Couples that want to make a decision on having children should consider their communication status especially concerning their personal needs, dreams and fears. The manner in which couples communicate about these issues to their relationship as a whole provides a hope into real parenthood.
One advantage of couples who decide to lead a childfree lifestyle is that they have more time to spend together and can cultivate their relationship. The success of any relationship between married couples requires maximum attention and a significant investment of time. Couples that have children usually have less time for each other due to household responsibilities, have less time for sex that could lead to marital discord.
