Plants, animals and water bodies form an essential part of the environment. Humans carry the obligation to take care of the environment and make it look attractive. Human activities can help improve or worsen the condition of the environment, but this lies in the decisions they make. Changes in the environment, such as weather patterns, occur each day with most human activities. These changes may positively contribute to the weather patterns, while some are destructive. Changing patterns in the environment affect the way of life of people living in those areas. Ultimately, these changing patterns impact the social, cultural and psychological aspects of human life. Therefore, climate change links changing environmental patterns to people's decisions and the impact this has on the physical, biological, and ecological systems.
Climate change directly links to the well-being of people in that people's lives will first manifest the results of climate change in the lives of human being as being productive or destructive. According to Sintayehu (2018), changing weather patterns which is the leading cause of climate change, has posed threats to human lives, primarily through biodiversity loss. Climate change is a human ecology issue as most human activities are the leading cause of the changing weather patterns. The emission of greenhouse gases into the environment results from industrialization, yet researchers have characterized it as one of the leading causes of warm climates (Harmsen, 2019). These gases do so by increasing the absorption energy of the earth and hence cause an extreme increase in temperatures known as global warming. Cutting down trees, especially for urban development, leaves the environment in these highly stressful conditions, which is predicted to affect 74% of the world's population in the next 80 years (Mora et al., 2017). Not only will climate change lead to climate-related deaths, but it will also significantly affect food security by affecting the availability of plant proteins which depend on temperatures. A rise in temperatures reduces plant proteins' availability, which will affect developing countries the most (Rosso Grossman, 2018). Therefore, human ecology should steer at improving the aspects of climate change with a view that what was predicted to happen in the future is currently being experienced.
Over the years, views and assumptions regarding climate change have evolved as experts focus on new ways to combat climate change and improve human life. The argument that sustainability is the way to deal with changing climatic patterns is beginning to fade. The focus is on creating resilience within every aspect of the environment to deal with the adverse effects of climate change in the future. However, the concept of adaptability is replacing all these previous concepts by coming up with new predictions that will help deal with current conditions. This approach is essential as the effects of climate change are now incremental, and new challenges are arising each day (Hill, 2016). For instance, urban planning to prevent water pollution by waste has integrated the formation of systems when creating urban landscapes to prevent leakage of waste into water piping systems (Wheeler, 2017). Creating conditions in the environment to counter the evolving manifestations of climate change could be the way to tackle the effects of climate change.
Although these systems are interrelated, biological, physical and ecological systems are experiencing climate change at different scales. According to Weiskopf et al. (2020), changing climatic patterns have resulted in a change in the behaviour and relationships of different biological species to adapt to the new environments.
