In modern-day society, common things unite people while social issues, problems, and differences separate them. Social issues such as classism and racism result in ascribed or achieved social statuses. On the other hand, social statuses influence one’s position in society and access to life chances. Therefore, social issues bring trouble which lowers individuals’ livelihoods and general well-being. In that sense, sociologists and other scholars use humor to discuss complex topics involving challenging social problems and issues.
