Discuss the influence of DNA and molecular biology on the future of evolutionary classification
DNA and molecular biology has contributed a lot into conservation of organisms. In the past organisms were classified based on colours, shape, height and the geographical ranges but with development in technology, the organisms are classified according to their DNA and molecular biology this has enhanced evolutionary changes in organisms through conservation and adaptation in the environment.
Genetic diversity within the population, loss of diversity within population may lead to extinction of organisms in the environment (Caughley 1994). However, with DNA and molecular biology diverse organisms with desirable characteristics and adaptive traits have been modified and their future survival has been enhanced. Through inventions more diverse population which are tolerant to environmental changes and menace like outbreak of diseases have been witness in such organisms hence enhancing future evolution.
Gen flow has been enhanced through DNA and Molecular biology, even though human activities like farming, settlement and expansions of towns and cities have led into habitat fragmentation thus interfering with natural processes like breeding, mating and feeding reducing population in the habitat (Hanski & Gaggiotti 2004). Many conservation areas are interconnected to allow species interact with others and allow natural processes take place although this has been interfered by human activities; conservationist and scientist have come up with gene pool to collect the origin of the species and allow them breed freely while improving their adaptive traits like resistant to diseases, good production and faster maturity offspring. This technique is only possible due to improvement in DNA and molecular biology.
Effective population sizes, with DNA and molecular biology effective alleles have been enhanced while the weak genes have been eliminated. This has been enhanced through controlled mating; male individuals with good traits are allowed to produce their progeny. This has produced controlled population size that utilizes vegetation wisely, through this environmental conservation has also been enhance as habitat degradation may lead to depletion of food resources thus leading to loss of future organisms.
Non-invasive species sampling and population estimate have been done in order to enhance future evolutionary. According to (Broquet & Petit 2004) individual species have been analysed. Through this mechanism, alien species have been mapped and controlled into ecosystem. This species have ecological dominance over others because some of them are allelophatic they are able to suppress others. Scientist thus have classified these species and removed them. This controlled population s...
