People may fall into a temporary condition when they are unable to pay for a living place, or when their current living place is unstable or unsafe. This condition is referred to as homelessness. Nowadays, a lot of excuses have been suggested in an attempt to explain the source of this condition. Among these are as discussed below.
The social and economic factors, also called structural causes are the natural causes that are beyond family or individual control. They include poverty, unemployment and lack of affordable housing among others. Many people worldwide remain unemployed; as a result they are unable to pay for a living place. In addition to this, poverty is a major contributor to homelessness. Poor people are not able to cater for their daily needs shelter been one of the needs. Moreover, due to their poor condition, they aren’t capable of affording affordable housing. This leaves them in homelessness condition (United States, 1991)
Some personal factors can also contribute toward people becoming homeless. An example is family background factors like breakdown and disputes in the family. In addition Individual factors like debts, poor physical or mental health among others increases the chances of being homelessness. Finally, institutional factors like having been in care can lead to homelessness. For example if one was in prison he/she is likely to be homeless after the jail term is over (Shelter, 2016)
