Futuristic Leaders
Since ancient civilization leadership has become an important aspect of the society. Societal organization, law and order is as a result of good leadership. Futuristic leaders are leaders that have the potential of seeing past today’s events into the possibilities of tomorrow (Wahab 54). These are great leaders who think, envision and create that which has not been created. They develop a vision that brings new ideas that suites into the future. Today societies are increasingly becoming preoccupied with future events and leaders are expected to think about issues of the future. 21st century offers several challenges which requires leaders to put in place mechanism to prevent this events before they happen. They are supposed to travel into the future and be able to spot the challenges that societies are likely to encounter.
One of the most modern futuristic leader is sociologist professor George Ritzer. George Ritzer was born on October 14, 1940 in New York United States of America. He is a distinguished professor at Maryland University and he has received many distinguishing scholar awards including American sociological associations because of his contribution to teaching. My choice of this distinguished professor is because of his writing on Mcdonaldization of the society (Ritzer ). In this concept he refers to mcdonaldization of society as the process in which societies adopt the characteristics of fast food restaurants. He argues that the principles of Mcdonization are coming to dominate the society more.
Ritzer is very insightful and this makes him an effective leader. He sees concepts from a different perspective and bring out a perspective that has not be offered before. He is also very outspoken. He gives his perspectives openly whether it is on a controversial topic or not
In this theory he looks at how societies are changing to fit in the challenges of the 21st century. Ritzer sees this principles of fast food as a root to changing society and it will help in introducing a contemporary paradigm shift to scientific principles in management. He writes that societies are increasing pre-occupied with four key principles that are likely to change how they operate. These four principles are; predictability, calcubility, efficiency and control.
The most important aspect about futuristic leadership is that as a leader whatever you tell people to do you must be willing to do it and lead by example. In the contemporary society leadership has to be by way of inspiring and motivating others.
George Ritzer is influential in communicating his ideas. He uses simple analogy to explain how the fast food restaurants work and how this can be applied to the modern society. He gives explains how society while be characterized by predictability to appoint that services will be uniform and standardized. This means that individuals’ can receive similar services irrespective of the place that they are. He believes in changing the status quo by thinking differently. He also talks about the aspect of control where he argues that in future most services will have humans like employees being replaced with non-human’s employees for instance by use of robots.
From Ritzer writings the excitement I get is that the future is filled with promising ways to solve the challenges were encountering. For instance, traditional principles of management of thumb rule and chest stamping will be replaced by scientific principles of management. This comes with a benefit in such a way that skilled workers will get opportunities to be employed without any influence from outside. Additionally, standardized and uniform services appeals to me since all individuals will be rendered to be equal thus promoting fairness and justice to
