Over the last century, the United States has made significant progress towards the attainment of gender equality. Through activism and political advances, various gender discrimination laws such as the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the Equal Pay Act (1963), and the Civil Rights Act (1964) have been adopted to legitimize women’s right to equality. However, women still lag in many socio-economic aspects, including in educational attainment, economic opportunity and participation, health, and political participation and representation.
