Abstract
Social and public policy degree enables one to have a deeper understanding of the daily problems in the society and how to implement policies that can bring solutions to the problems. Its main areas of study include poverty eradication, education, and better housing among others. The primary motive of the social welfare is to transform the lives of the neighborhood through the introduction of the useful programs. A public policy enhances better examination on how the political forces foster meaningful programs that can shape up the society positively. It is mainly concerned with human rights, healthcare, and conflict resolutions. The primary area of concern is the employment and housing policy for the ex-offenders. There should be no discrimination by the society, but instead, they should be offered with the right education to achieve employment opportunities. They should also benefit from subsidized housing just like fellow citizens.
Why I want to attend graduate study in social and public policy
Having graduated from Schenectady County Community College in Chemical Dependency and Human Services in 2013, the internship was at St, Mary’s Outpatient Addiction Clinic between 2012 and 2013. In 2016, received Bachelor of Science degree in Community and Human Services from Suny Empire State College, the next relevant study should be in social and public policies.
The study of Social Policy enables one to understand the cause of social problems in the society fully, and the efforts the government is making in solving the problems. The study is mainly concerned with inadequate education, poverty, unemployment, poor housing, and ill-health. The social welfare policy is important in that, the society as a whole can benefit when those who have the knowledge can help transform the lifestyle of the neighborhood. The majority of poor people in the community can get better living standards when they get intelligently administered programs from qualified personnel.
A society that has less poor people has less criminal cases. The study shows that many individuals engage in crime because they cannot afford basic needs like education, shelter, and food. An educated youth can think positively on matters that can make the future bright for themselves and the society in general, unlike the ignorant one who can only think of making dirty money along the streets through robbery and peddling of drugs. An educated social worker can design counseling programs that can enable the youth to quit drug addiction and crime in the streets.
Social welfare is meant to bring comfort to the senior citizens and the disabled in the society. It is possible through the provision of direct cash, housing subsidies, and even job training. A trained social worker is in a better position to budget with the available money in helping the needy groups in the society without wastage of resources and abuse of the system. By doing so, they can manage to help the majority of people in the community at a lower cost thus bringing a relief also to the government and lawmakers.
