Introduction
In Islam, the concept of Halal means “permissible”. Halal food refers to food that does not contain parts of animal origin that are forbidden for consumption by the Islamic law. According to the Islamic law, food is considered not halal if it comes into contact or contains what they regard as filthy such as pork, blood, alcohol, carrion, urine, or feces. The food should also be manufactured or processed in a manner that the equipment used does not come into contact with anything they regard unclean. The slaughter of any animal to be consumed by a Muslim must be done by a fellow Muslim of sound mind. The preparation, display, and storage should be in a place free from the animal products the Muslims have forbidden (Shafie 2004 p.11, Pink 2009 p.3)
