Is Media Globalization a Form of Cultural Imperialism
Globalization was envisioned after World War II in the 1970s and 80s. The colonized countries were meant to benefit from the improvement of their lively hood and social classes. Cultural imperialism is mostly associated with people imitating western culture. After the colonization period, it was manifested that the new continents such as Africa, Asia, and the Middle East still copied their colonizers' way of doing things (Ampuja, M., Koivisto, J., & Nordenstreng, K. 2019). There have been heated debates on the relationship between media globalization and cultural imperialism. This is because of the social-economical changes that needed to be made for the newly developed continents to be able to develop like their Europe and other colonizers.
After the colonization period, it was clear that the newly formed continents still needed their colonizers to develop their industries and states. They formed alliances with their frontiers as they did not have the funds or the technology needed to establish industries. This led to the establishment of non-governmental organizations such as the United Nations and USAID in the colonized states. The continents also adapted capitalism as their form of trading and also devised their government in the same way their frontiers had ( Ampuja, M., Koivisto, J., & Nordenstreng, K,2019).
