Politics is defined as the activities that direct how a country or an area is governed, particularly the discussion among the political leaders and their representatives. Since politics deals with the public affair, it is right to say that politics is a social science. Various countries have political systems that elect leaders to power. Save for a few states, most countries organize elections every four, five, seven or years where the citizens vote in a transparent manner and choose the leaders they want. On their part, the leaders always have their mandate—a set of promises or pledges they wish to fulfill for the betterment of their constituents. Through the campaigns, they sell their agenda to the electorate, and the people choose the leaders they consider to represent their interests best (Dowding, 2015). Everyone is involved in politics—the leader, the voter, and the election officials. The very fact that competitive politics involves citizens, their country, and their issues makes politics social science. The leaders are chosen so they can ensure order in society. For a country to be peaceful there must be leaders who give a sense of direction and represent the people genuinely and reasonably. Therefore, politics is a social science because it deals with everyday issues of the citizens, and politicians strive to enact laws that create jobs, improve security, and the general living standards of the people
