The Most Effective Ways to Self-motivate
Self-motivation refers to the ability of an individual to do what they need to do without relying on an external push (Dunning, 2015). It is a trait that helps people to succeed in their undertakings and life in general. Self-motivation does not need to be an inborn trait because people willing to attain it can do so by following the three ways of self-motivation discussed in this paper.
The first effective way to self-motivation is keeping a positive mind (Hill, 2017). By having a positive mind, an individual is able to remain happy and hence achieve more things. Happiness avoids the temptation to procrastinate and thus a happy person gets more things done than an unhappy person. Hill also writes that most procrastination happens when people are in their bad moods. People use procrastination as a short-term remedy for low moods and hence end up skipping a number of things that they would have done were they happy. In order to have a positive mind, one should focus on the positive side of life than the negative side (Hill, 2017). They have to see possibilities rather than impossibilities. This increases optimism and happiness ultimately making an individual self-motivated.
The second effective way of self-motivation is to reward the self whenever one achieves any of their goals. Rewards make people feel good and happy. As discussed above, happiness helps people to achieve more things than when they have bad moods. According to Hill (2017), reward accounts for 75% of motivation that pushes people to accomplish things. A reward is a positive way to keep one self-motivated. On the contrary, penalties can also self-motivate a person. For example, a person can set not to watch their favorite TV program in the evening if they do not accomplish the things that they had set to accomplish in their daily to-do list. In such a case, the individual will do all they can to achieve their day’s tasks to get a chance to watch their program. It, therefore, follows that to be self-motivated; one needs to set a reward mechanism for themselves.
The third way in which one can be self-motivated is to keep a worthy company of peers (Hill, 2017). Though peer pressure is thought of in the negative more than in the positive perspective, it can be a good way to keep oneself in check. For example, if one keeps a company of health-conscious people, the person is likely to pursue health goals. ...
