1 Paradigm is a group of collective hypotheses regarding various aspects of the world. It indicates its member’s collective assertion about the purpose of research, nature of reality and the type of information it provides. Positive paradigm relies on August Comte, a French philosopher who argues that reason and observation are methods of understanding human character. Positive paradigm also indicates that true knowledge relies on can be extracted through experiment and observation. Positive paradigm is used in special education and other types of research.
According to Kumar (2019), positive paradigm is used in special education to address the issue of intellectual disability. It applies in special education research and inclusion since positive knowledge depends on natural experiences, their relationships and properties which get interpreted through logical observation and reasoning. In special education, methods such as correlation, longitudinal and quantitative research are some of the examples of positive paradigm. They help in observing the relationships between special student’s academic achievements and impacts of motivation and effects of intelligence.
