Puberty and Risky Behavior

Introduction
During the adolescence stage, teenagers face a lot of challenges of physical, biological, social, and psychological nature while undergoing puberty changes. It is at this stage that teenagers tend to take risks that could be harmful to themselves and their peers. To adolescents, risk-taking is a means to discover oneself and in some situations, they learn new skills but their ability to distinguish good and bad risks is greatly compromised due to their ongoing puberty changes. The purpose of this paper is to understand the puberty process and identify the risky behavior that teenagers are most likely to get involved in and how they take those risks will.
Puberty is a circular relationship that involves the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, the male and the female gonads, and hormones. The pituitary gland is signaled by the hypothalamus to discharge hormones that are in charge of controlling physical growth and the gonads. The male gonads (testes) and female gonads (ovaries) increase the sex hormones production (Androgens and Estrogens) when they respond to the pituitary glands and the circular relationship is established when the sex hormones further stimulate the hypothalamus (Rathus, 2020, p. 217).
