Community Analysis – New Orleans
New Orleans, LA is a city-parish located in Louisiana state. According to Campanella (2017), New Orleans is a consolidated city-parish formed by merging surrounding cities along the Mississippi River to create a unified jurisdiction. Data from the 2020 national census indicates that New Orleans is the most populous city in Louisiana, with over 380,000 people. The city’s population density of over 2000 people per square mile suggests that its population has continued to increase (12 percent) since the last census in 2010. The most significant part of this population is composed of African Americans, who form 59.53 percent (United States Census Bureau, 2020). Surprisingly, the United States Census Bureau data indicate that the White American population constitutes 34 percent of New Orleans’ population, while individuals from Asian ethnicity form approximately 3 percent. Natives Americans and Hawaiian people form less than two percent of New Orleans’ population. Therefore, New Orleans is a multicultural city where different races and lifestyles flourish.
