Federal Acts and Social Justice Name of Student University Tutor Date Federal Acts and Social Justice The USA PATRIOT act, a short form for "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism" (U.S. Department of Justice, 2016) and the Homeland Security Act (HSA), are U.S. federal government’s acts approved by the Congress in 2001 and 2002 respectively as an immediate means of countering terrorism activities following the 2001 attacks in "New York City’ and ‘Washington, the District’, but the fact is that these acts are riddled with defects and faults that gravely compromise the U.S. citizens’ basic rights and civil liberties. Second, freedom from irrational investigations: the homeland security can hunt and grab citizens’ confidential records, commerce credentials and handset or online activities with no credible reason to lend a hand in bombing investigations. Third, right to an immediate and unrestricted trial: the federal administration may lockup citizens until further notice without being tried. Forth, right to be legally represented: the homeland security may watch over national penal complex talks between legal representatives and prisoners, and even disallow citizens charged with various crimes to have attorneys. Fifth, freedom of information: the federal government through homeland security has clandestinely seized many citizens without allegations, and has persuaded administrators and other public officials to defy public documents requests. Sixth, freedom of association: the homeland security may keep an eye on religious activities, and set surveillance on political activitie...
