In the sport industry, management refers to an occupation that is used to administer and coordinate sporting activities in order to achieve certain objectives and goals. Management involves setting the firm’s strategy and then coordinating the efforts of different staff to attain the goals through the use of available resources. Leadership is the capability of a person or a group of people to guide and influence followers or other members of an association. Leadership usually involves making difficult and sound decisions, making a clear vision and articulating it, establishing attainable objectives, and offering followers the tools and knowledge needed to attain the goals (Sawyer & Judge., 2012).
The main difference between the two in the sport industry is that leaders usually set the vision and make it clear to all members within the association while managers follow the vision (Imbroda-Ortiz et al., 2015). In setting and implementing a firm’s vision and mission, leaders and managers have different responsibilities. Leaders are the visioners while managers ensure that workers are kept and aligned within the main firm’s goals and values.
