Abstract
Education plays a critical role in one’s life as it liberates his or her minds from the chains of poverty as well as ignorance. Also, education helps an individual to assess an issue and find alternative solutions to it. The main aim of this paper is to examine the importance of social work in school set up, and the roadblocks social workers meet there. Specifically, a social worker role in an education set up is to ensure that there is no schooling biasness by influencing proper curriculum development and advocating education rights for the children (Sheafor et al., 2012). As well, a school social worker plays an essential role in an educational setting. He or she provides services to learners by enhancing their psychological and expressive welfare as well as improve their academic performance. A social worker is employed by a school agency that is contracted with the school districts to provide services. Their significant duties are usually to assist the learners, families as well as teachers as they address problems facing the entire education setting. They often address issues such as substance abuse, aggressive behaviors by students, social withdrawal, economic difficulties and sexuality issues. This paper will further look at various systematic reviews on areas social workers are involved in a school setting, particularly with the focus to their roles in ensuring schools are running appropriately.
