The U.S Policy against ISIS
One of the policies adopted by the U.S against ISIS is the non-involvement in any ground operations in Iraq. The U.S only promised to support the counter-insurgency group through surveillance and collection of valuable information and providing air support that relates to the ISIS plans. The U.S government will also assist the Iraq forces in formulating a strategic plan to counter the ISIS terrorist attacks (Stansfield, 2014). The policy also accounts for the provision of military advisors to the Iraq forces by training them on counter attacks techniques. Media reports cite that late last year, 2015, the U.S Congress voted to fund the war against ISIS. However, lawmakers have refuted claims that the act by Congress of funding the war against ISIS is equivalent to authorizing military action (Bendery, 2015). In addition, the U.S government intends to collaborate with other countries to conquer the ISIS organization, owing to the fact that the terrorist group poses a common threat to most countries’ national security.
Stakeholders of the Formulation of the U.S Policy against ISIS
The war against ISIS has called for the attention of many countries. There is a group of countries which is directly affected by the ISIS attacks, while another group comprises of countries which join the affected countries in the war against terrorism. The combined effort has been observed through U.S-led airstrikes against the Islamic State as well as the launch of military operations by the Russian government in Syria (Aleksashenko, 2015). Other nations involved in the war against ISIS in Iraq and Syria include: the UK, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and France among others. Most of these countries are close allies with the U.S which means that they join hands in enforcing the U.S policy against ISIS ("Islamic Stateâ€, 2015). The U.S and its allies are reported to conduct over 8,000 strikes against ISIS (Fantz, 2015).
The Purpose of the U.S Policy against ISIS
The policy on the non-involvement in any ground operations in Iraq was as a result of the huge loss of the U.S military forces in the Iraq’s war of 2000s (Stansfield, 2014). However, since the government of the U.S is willing to fight the ISIS militants, the U.S public managers formulated this policy. Furthermore, the fight against ISIS will reduce the resources used in military war, and thereby improve the economy of the U.S. Support by the Congress through the Authorization of Use of Military Forces (AUMF) against ISIS will come in handy in achieving the U.S objectives in the fight against ISIS.
The policy is also important as it shows the U.S government’s willingness to support the government of Iraq in the fight against the ISIS militants. This is evident from the many provisions for supporting the activities of the Iraq forces (Bendery, 2015). This includes the provision of surveillance services and the training of Iraq troops. Although the policy shows the U.S’ reluctance to be involved directly in the fight against the ISIS militants, the policy sho...
