Our bodies are our investment. When you take good care of yourself by watching your diet and exercising the results are always visible. When it comes to determining who owns your body culture takes center stage in explaining the origin, social norms and beliefs around ones physical environment. Christianity also plays a role in determining who own our body. That is why we have the Holy book quotation stipulating that ‘our bodies are the temple of God’. Argument in this paper seeks to explain and clarify who owns or bodies as follows;
In a patriarchal society everybody is associated with the father side. The father is regarded as the head and mostly acknowledged as the owner of everything around. The same transits into a matriarchal society with gender roles being defined. So when deciding who really owns our body’s factors such as culture and society cannot be undermined. Debate on possession of one’s body has led to questions being asked and the state is also asked whether it can lawfully claim to own a person. According to (Eliade, 1965) he asserts that there is a perfect balance between the grand creators work and how nature manifests itself in ensuring coexistence of individuals.
Defining gender roles in most society’s places women as second to men. In the old testament , the Mosaic Law was mostly read and practiced in society where women were seen as subordinate to men, grouped alongside domestic animals while the children their bear were seen as household. In the Israelite women were excluded from public ceremonies because of their menstruation and childbirth was rendered culturally unclean.
