Women’s Leadership in the Universities
In society, women are seen as individuals who are making good progress in ensuring that they get quality education. Many women are seen enrolling in colleges and universities compared to men. Females in many countries, including Kenya, have been empowered, which is why we see many soaring to greater heights. However, many people need to understand what undergraduate and graduate women experience. Some of the challenges that women go through should be emphasized more. Women are driven, ambitious, and capable of achieving leadership positions. However, despite increasing women's employment, many of these roles need more power or resource management.
There are fewer prospects for women to develop into formal leadership positions in colleges and universities because they need to be represented in permanent and full faculty positions. However, we know that there are plenty of qualified and driven women, both through studies and our academic experience. In a world where men dominate, it is difficult for women to stand up for themselves and fight for what they believe in or want to accomplish. Most women feel intimidated in such environments (Allen & Flood, 2018). This, in turn, leads to a reduced success rate. In such cases, men are given more attention than women because they are few.
Funding is another challenge that women face on campuses. Generally, funding has always been challenging for students who want to pursue higher education. However, regarding women, the ground level seems different when they try to access funding for PhDs. For example, women are more inclined to want to start a family before going after a Ph.D. However, by then, they might be approaching or have beyond the 35-year cutoff limit required by some funding organizations to be eligible for grants for PhDs, for example. That is why it is necessary to remove these kinds of barriers.
