Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is the science of programming computers to perform tasks that need intelligence when performed by human mind. Computers with artificial intelligence can only perform a particular task unlike the human mind. There are one hundred billion cells that make up the human brain. The cells connect with thousands of other cells through synapses to form two parts of the brain. These parts include the subconscious and conscious mind. They interconnect to perform complex tasks the artificial computers cannot perform (Warwick, 2011).
Artificial intelligence cannot take a place of human mind. Artificial researchers design artificial computers to follow procedures that perform specific tasks. The human mind has subconscious and conscious parts that help in performing several tasks. The conscious part is responsible for reasoning and logic (Winston, 2014). On the other hand, the subconscious part takes control of the involuntary actions. It therefore helps the brain to control emotions and store memories.
The subconscious and conscious parts help human mind deal, adapt, and understand new situations. In addition, the mind can apply knowledge through cognitive processes, to adapt to certain environment (Winston, 2014). However, artificial intelligence is only developed to perform and mimic the human mind. It is difficult to program artificial computers for intelligence items such as reasoning, perception, learning and knowledge.
Developing artificial intelligence started fifty years ago. Artificial intelligence researchers divided it into weak and strong artificial intelligence (Warwick, 2011). The weak artificial intelligence aims at developing a technology that carry out preplanned moves. These moves follow some procedures to achieve certain goals. However, the strong artificial intelligence is creating technology that can work and think like human mind without mimicking. Unfortunately, the artificial intelligent researchers have only completed the weak artificial intelligence. It is impossible to develop the strong artificial intelligence because of lack of subconscious and conscious intelligence.
The weak artificial intelligence uses a specified procedure to perform tasks. Artificial computers can remember the procedure if the task is successful. It memorizes items, such as solutions to problems, so next time it will perform the same task. However, it is difficult for the artificial computer to perform better in an environment not previously encountered. The computer lack conscious intelligence and cannot use common sense to come up with new ways of solving a problem. The human mind will use both the subconscious and conscious mind in solving problems. It will learn and form new ways of performing tasks (Warwick, 2011).
The artificial computer cannot reason like the human mind. It is difficult to program the computer to make conclusions relevant to the situation in hand. The human mind use its conscious part to decide based on the situation in hand (Winston, 2014).
In conclusion, artificial intelligence is the science o...
