When Google unveiled the original Pixel in 2016, several people questioned why the company ventured into the business of designing, manufacturing, and selling mobile phones. Such sentiments still linger, nearly three years on, with some questioning the purpose of Google’s smartphones. Pessimistic insights on Google’s move argue that the Pixel model is only existing in a few nations and possessed by only few individuals. While this may truly sound contradictory, it is naпve to argue that Google should not make phones merely because the Pixel does not sell in large quantities. Google’s controversial decision notwithstanding, the company should continue making phones since the Pixel is influential regardless of the small number of people who own the phone.
First, Google’s model is the sole android device that can compete the iPhone. Besides Apple, Google is the only corporation that prides in designing both the operating system and the hardware of its smartphone. Moreover, Google’s Pixel Visual Core chip renders photography tasks more efficient and faster (Hosseini, Xiao, & Poovendran, 2017). Besides, Goggle is the most advanced company in its AL applications such as an intelligent call screening and HDR+ camera system in the Pixel (Hosseini, Xiao, & Poovendran, 2017).
