I agree with the statement that nuclear power provides cheap and clean energy and that the benefits of nuclear technology far outweigh the disadvantages. The production of electricity through the use of nuclear power helps in reducing the amount of energy that is generated through fossil fuels such as oil and coal(Akahori et al., 2017). Less utilization of fossil fuels results in a reduction of the emission of greenhouse gases for instance carbon dioxide and others. Currently, the consumption fossil fuels is higher than their production, meaning that in future these resources might be significantly reduced or their prices might considerably increase thus becoming inaccessible for majority of the population(Akahori et al., 2017). Another benefit of nuclear power is that the required amount of energy is usually less and as such, it is used for its production(McCombie & Jefferson, 2016).
The cost of nuclear power is about 20% of the overall cost of energy generated(Akahori et al., 2017). Nuclear power also does not rely on natural aspects. It, therefore, offers a long-term solution to the key disadvantage of renewable energy such as wind and solar power since the hours of wind or sun do not always coincide with increased demand(McCombie & Jefferson, 2016).
