The modern technological society has experienced great revolutions and advancements in technology. Globalization has led to myriad changes in the society that has been backed up by great sites like YouTube. Today, one can access video tutorials on any subject from YouTube without necessarily going to purchase it from the original producer unless the video has been removed from YouTube or has a restrictive copyright. This paper intends to explain three broad societal impacts that have been propagated by YouTube globally.
Interaction
According to Rotman and Preece (2010), YouTube channels have promoted great interaction by providing internal communication channels like the comments and individual messages to the subscribers. Additionally, users can as well propose external communication alternative routes commonly called back-channels right on their own personal channels. The common communication mode among many users is by posting written comments that are reciprocal. Alternatively, they can communicate by use of internal tools of YouTube.
Recognition and emotional attachment among users is created by established rapport. This is majorly based on the volume and frequency of interaction of the individuals concerned. In some instances, the personal communication has extended from the videos to private and serious matters. Back-channels serve great important importance. In fact, some interviewed users have mentioned to have received invitation to attend personal events as well as Christmas cards. In addition to this, extensive email chats exchanges between users have been reported.

This is a type of support that a user calls for when he or she experiences technical challenges for instance in trying to promote oneself. Due to numerous videos posted on YouTube daily, it becomes a challenge for one to be noticed. Therefore, a linking, referring, linking and discussing a given video promotes awareness and raises ratings. Through these different supports, the user’s essential needs are addressed and he or she is connected as well as touched by others.
Intercultural adaptation
According to Sawyer (2011, p8), intercultural adaptation stages are vital to follow as pertains to social media.
