Polysaccharides are molecular carbohydrates with polymeric structures composed of heterogeneous long monosaccharide chains. Their long chains allow for synthesis into different structural subclasses such as the low molecular polysaccharides. The polymers' subclass synthesized either naturally or artificially and occurring as ordered crystalline fibrils. Their formation follows from either the synthesis of different classes or individual structural polymers. The enormous structure results from the formation of large molecular assemblies of varied types. Hence, the potential of exploiting individual physical and chemical characteristics can only be reached by using the latest multifunctional chemical technologies. Essentially, low molecular weight derivatives of ionic polysaccharides are critically useful forms of biopolymers owing to both their functional versatility and structural diversity.
